Intro
Once home to Denver’s Yellow Cab Depot, this former brownfield site was transformed by Zeppelin Development into a community of residents and businesses that make up the TAXI campus. The project consists of nine buildings, 150 businesses and 300 full-time residences. Since the third building went up in 2013, Wunder Werkz has collaborated creatively with the development team to bring a cohesive visual language to the site and amenity features, including: collateral, signage, spatial and digital design; in addition to consulting on a number of creative and cultural initiatives.

Each building and new site feature posed its own unique challenges and opportunities that were addressed as individual design elements, but also viewed as part of the holistic site plan. The Flight building balanced a number of spec suites that were pre-furnished, with Boa’s global headquarters: all in a building that valued sustainable design and build practices. We worked with the development team and Open Desk to create a custom, sustainable and locally constructed furniture package for each unit. We also created custom typography, dynamic signage packages and built a unique digital experience for leasing. The newest building on the site, Kabin, brought Scandinavian design sensibilities to micro housing. Our role in the project started at the earliest stages, working in concert with the architect to determine the paint schedule and material finishes, then making sure those elements expressed themselves through custom typography, pattern work and iconography that were utilized on signage, web and marketing assets. Most recently, we took a broad view of the site and made the award winning Future of Office website highlighting how the campus is perfectly situated for a post-pandemic world.

The TAXI site also had a focus on cultural relevance and tenant amenities. Beyond working on thoughtful and playful wayfinding and site signage, we also partnered on the creation and curation of numerous site amenities. We worked on both the physical form and furnishing package for the much-loved TAXI container pool, even doing annual updates to the exterior graphics package. When TAXI introduced their on-site Artist in Residence program we worked with the developer to co-curate the program and make sure that the mix of artists was diverse both in art style and artist make up, and that the outcomes had positive community effect. We branded the site’s Comal Heritage Food Incubator, the campus restaurant and job training center. Most recently, we worked with Black Cube gallery to bring Matt Barton’s skate park installation, Community Forms, to the campus.
